Overview

Relics is the first black-owned analog film photography shop in California. Our mission is to bring accessibility and diversity to the world of analog photography to help tell stories, inspire people and to keep film alive. We strive to make film photography easy and love sharing it with people of all ages, from all backgrounds, all over the globe.

We are looking to hire a super proactive, results-driven Film Lab Technician to ensure the smooth running of the lab while proving amazing customer service. Relics provides a very high-end experience for its customers and that experience must be maintained through all interactions and services provided.

An entrepreneurial spirit is a must in this role, we're looking for someone to run this lab like it's their own; someone who can identify business needs and then recommend and implement suitable solutions that help drive the business forward. To be successful as a Film Lab Technician, you should be well-organized while working with a high degree of autonomy. Ultimately, an outstanding Film Lab Technician should demonstrate excellent time management and communication skills at all times.

Job Duties

  • Setup and maintain all film laboratory equipment and documentation in accordance with company standards while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and maintaining a clean and orderly working environment

  • Mix proper chemistry for film laboratory machines and handle all film services end-to-end, including film processing, film scanning, printing, etc.

  • Receive and deliver customer orders while coordinating with Relics team members to deliver quick and quality services for our community

  • Manage Relics Film Lab operations, including opening and closing the lab, managing inventory, and providing administrative support as needed

  • Troubleshoot while providing fast and effective solutions when roadblocks occur

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Film Lab Technician or relevant position with proficient Photoshop and photo editing skills; a keen eye for detail is a must

  • Experience with professional lab equipment strongly preferred (Noritsu, Fuji Frontier, etc.)

  • Driven, results-oriented mindset with a track record of driving initiatives through to completion; demonstrated history of strong execution 

  • Must be an organized, self-managed worker with strong time management skills; the ability to work effectively in the face of ambiguity, shifting priorities, and competing responsibilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, while proactively communicating status updates, suggestions and concerns

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, under a high degree of accountability 

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and positive mindset with a “can do” attitude; ability to set, manage and over-deliver on management expectations
